The term Kajoli Model refers to a unique experiment that is taking place in Bangladesh today to promote education of children from the most deprived sections of the society. The experiment which began as an action research in 2002 has now emerged as a fully-fledged pre-school learning model. And because of its innovative features and its “fun and game” approach, the Model is fast gaining popularity throughout Bangladesh. It is being widely used by rural communities to run pre-school learning centers, known as Kajoli centers, primarily through their own efforts.

Mothers’ Associations and Kajoli Centers
In Bangladesh, despite efforts by the Government and many Non-Governmental organizations over the years to promote education of all children, those from the marginalized communities have continued to lag behind for various reasons. Keeping these reasons in mind, Research Initiatives, Bangladesh (RIB) undertook early on a research to develop a model that would attract such children to learning and to go to school. The result has been the development of a pre-school learning model which has become the basis for setting up of a large number of pre-primary centers throughout the country for the last eight years.
